Compare and Contrast life in 1830's & now.docx
Life
in the 1830’s was very different from life now. People, cities,
towns and work: everything was different. Communication was
incredibly difficult, and same with the living conditions. In this
essay, I will be comparing lifestyles, work, and entertainment. I
will compare our current age to the 19th century. I will be focusing
on two sisters that came from England, to Canada named Susanna
Moodie & Catherine Parr Traill.
The
world was huge back then, people had to travel by sea to every place,
or by horseback. There were no cars, planes, or jets. Everything
moved slowly, people didn’t go to the store to get things,
people didn’t buy their food, they had to farm it themselves.
Now a days everything is at our fingertips, we can order anything
online, we can travel anywhere in the world in less than a day, it
has made the world so small, everything is connected. A new invention
in another country, will be in yours within a day.
When
Susanne and Catherine traveled to Upper Canada, they traveled in what
is called a coffin ship. These ships are called that because once you
step on it, the chances of catching a disease or becoming sick
increases significantly. Most people would die on these ships because
of lack of food, density of people onboard, and very little hygen.
These ships would be traveling on the open water for roughly a month,
maybe even two; if circumstances forced it. People on board had to
supply themselves with their own food. No food was served to them, so
it was not like a cruise ship, or really any kind of ship nowadays.
Susanne
and Catherine arrived to Upper Canada in the year 1832. They did not
arrive with a lot
