You will probably want to also look specifically at military culture--are gender norms the same there as in the general population? You might also deepen the discussion by consider this question: what does a piece of art that captures a past moment do for us today? Nothing? Provide a window or primary document? If so, does that make it "relevant"? Any of these points could be argued one way or the other--consider brainstorming a bit on them and seeing where it takes you."
