"This is a detailed essay that makes smart choices in what and how to present the biographical details. Some repetition in the opening and closing (what would probably be the intro and conclusion, see below) should be attended to; if you want to reiterate or reinforce key facts toward the end, make sure your language and presentation reflects this so the reader isn't confused.

You show good control over the writing mechanics, though some moments will benefit from revision for clarity. For example, when you write, "...an unemployed mill worker with a strict attitude because of his narrow Roman Catholic beliefs" in para. 1, it's not clear if the beliefs contribute to the strict attitude, his being a mill worker, or his employment status; while this is a minor detail, when the reader has to stop and figure out the meaning, they become distracted and the flow of the writing is interrupted. Another lower-order concern related to clarity and presentation will be to italicize the titles of Dreiser's novels; this helps the reader comprehend what type of work it is and also develops the paper's ethos by showing your control over the style guide elements.

The other major task will be in paragraphing. Presenting the essay as a single paragraph overwhelms the reader and suggests an absence of development. As the latter is not the case, make sure the visual organization and presentation of the essay match the on-the-ground work of the argumentation."
